August September asked:
"I have been fighting liver cancer for six years and I am on the transplant list at MT Sinai in NYC. We have exhausted all of our finances and are trying to live on my social security disability. Is there any organization that can help us with basic living expenses until my transplant is completed and I can work again. I am sixty five years old and my wife is sixty one. She try to work part time but is not well. There are no resources available that we have found. Tried a fundraiser didn't work."

Sorry to hear that you are having financial issues. Try the 211 referral line of your local United Way for links to community programs that assist with daily living costs.

What about assistance from the National Foundation for Transplants: https://patients.transplants.org?

Or using a tool like the CancerHawk Navigator: https://cancerhawk.com/navigator — you could find things you're eligible for (i.e., specific funds for people with liver cancer, people living in your ZIP code, people who are or have worked in your industry) that a stranger couldn't. If you're in NYC and need meals, you might also try God's Love We Deliver: https://www.glwd.org.

Good luck.
