Title: Patton Oswalt's Annihilation Netflix Special
Post by: herbd on November 09, 2017, 03:24:19 pm
I've always been a fan of Oswalt. He really puts it out there in this special. The part where he talks about telling his 7 year old daughter about her mother's death after battling cancer is really tough but worth the time to watch.

Here's part of a review...

Quote
The 48-year-old comedian devotes the final half of his hour-long special Annihilation, his first Netflix project since 2016's Talking for Clapping, to reckoning with his grief, the material ranging in tone from darkly funny to emotionally wrecked....

Annihilation is the culmination of a year’s worth of material, and a lifetime’s worth of grief, that Oswalt has continually workshopped in the wake of McNamara’s death. He retells the story of his first Mother’s Day after her passing, where his getaway with his daughter Alice is ruined by a so-called “Polish woman of doom,” and again makes the case that mourning is less a “healing journey” than it is a "numb slog."

I saw it. I laughed my ass off. The "Polish woman of doom" was my favorite bit although went a little long by the time he hit Arbor Day. Amazing how he can make you laugh about something so so dark.  Must of been so theraputic for him to work through that material.
